The original Nollamara houses are 1950s and 1960s fibro and brick veneer on timber stumps or early slabs, with timber roof framing that is now sixty to seventy years old. Many sit on the subdivisible lots the Commission laid out, and over the last decade a large number have been demolished for two- and three-unit townhouse developments in double brick or framed construction on slab. The soil is yellow Spearwood sand on the rise up to the Mount Yokine reservoir and water tower, well-drained and easy for termites to move through. Before the war the southern end was market gardens and poultry farms, and the deep organic soil there still holds moisture.
