The suburb name was approved in 1980 but the houses came in the mid-1990s, after Currambine station opened on the Joondalup line in 1993. Almost everything here is slab-on-ground brick and tile, or two-storey with steel and timber framing, laid out in quarters by Connolly Drive and Moore Drive. Slab construction has no timber in the ground, but termites still enter through slab penetrations, cracked edges and the garden beds and paving built up against the brickwork, and many 1990s homes have had their original management zone bridged by landscaping. The ground is yellow Spearwood sand over Tamala limestone, the heaps of rocks in the name, and limestone close to the surface means most chemical systems here go in by drilling and injecting.
Five holes of the Joondalup Golf Course sit in the south-eastern corner of Currambine, and its irrigated fairways, lakes and bush edges keep rodents, mosquitoes and coastal brown ants well supplied on the blocks that back onto them. Delamere Park and the Currambine Community Centre behind Currambine Central are the green heart of the suburb, with mature trees and retained vegetation that carry black house spiders and native cockroaches onto nearby homes.
