Darch was named in 1997 and split from Landsdale the following year, and almost every home is a 2000s or 2010s single-lot build: concrete slab, double brick or rendered brick veneer, steel or timber trusses, alfresco under the main roof and paving to the slab edge. The soil is yellow Spearwood sand on the Kingsway side grading toward grey Bassendean sand to the east, both free-draining and both ideal for coastal brown ants and subterranean termites. The estates were built over market gardens and small rural lots, so buried root material and old fence timber sit in the sand under many blocks, feeding colonies until they find a slab penetration.
Kingsway and Mirrabooka Avenue carry the traffic, Darch Plaza and Kingsway City handle the shopping, and Ashdale Primary, Ashdale Secondary College and Kingsway Christian College hold large irrigated grounds in the middle of the suburb. Landsdale Park is remnant bushland with interpretive signage and a year-round base for rats, native cockroaches and spiders that move into the adjoining streets as the bush dries.
