Craigie was named in 1970 and built through that decade as one of the four Whitfords suburbs rezoned from coastal land in 1969. The housing is mostly original 1970s double brick and brick veneer with tiled roofs on timber framing, with a scatter of later renovations and rebuilds, and much of it is now 45 to 50 years old. The ground is Spearwood dune sand, yellow and free-draining, over Tamala limestone, the same country that grows the tuarts and banksias in the reserve.
