Kingsley was gazetted in 1974 and the first homes went up from 1977, so most of the suburb is late-1970s and 1980s double brick and brick veneer with tiled roofs on timber framing, set on blocks of 500 square metres and more with mature trees. Between the Mitchell Freeway and the lake the ground is Spearwood dune sand, yellow and free-draining, over Tamala limestone at depth. That is comfortable ground for subterranean termites, and 40-year-old timber roof framing, timber fences, retaining walls and old garden beds against the brickwork are exactly what they look for.
