Most of Lockridge went up through the 1970s after the State Housing Commission bought 97 hectares of the old Pyrton Estate: single-storey brick veneer and fibro-clad homes on strip footings, with timber roof framing and timber floors in many. The urban renewal of the late 1990s added new slab homes, duplexes and grouped dwellings on subdivided blocks, so one street can hold a fifty-year-old house with jarrah framing beside a much younger slab build. The ground is Bassendean grey sand, flat and leached, with a shallow water table that keeps the lower blocks damp through winter.
